Skagerrak HVDC interconnector comprising four parallel cables over a roughly 240 km route between Norway and Denmark, providing up to 1,632 MW of cross‑border transmission capacity; Skagerrak 1 and 2 form the original 500 MW bipolar scheme within this system.
In 2020, Statnett awarded NKT a service contract to repair the Skagerrak 1 and 2 HVDC power cables after they were damaged. NKT carried out the subsea repair works on the 250 kV MI‑insulated interconnector cables between Norway and Denmark, including provision of repair joint kits, offshore jointing operations, reburial and associated installation activities. Statnett performed the initial cut‑and‑seal and deburial, while NKT mobilized its cable handling system on the construction vessel Olympic Zeus to execute the repair. The operation restored both Skagerrak 1 and 2 links to service, minimizing outage time on this key cross‑border interconnector.
