Installation of the two parallel HVDC subsea cables for Skagerrak 1 & 2 along an approximately 127 km underwater route between Denmark and Norway.
Nexans was responsible for installing the first two Skagerrak HVDC subsea cables forming the Skagerrak 1 and 2 interconnector between Denmark and Norway. Between 1976 and 1977 the company deployed the mass‑impregnated 250 kV submarine cables across the Skagerrak Strait between the cable terminals near Kristiansand and Jutland, creating a 500 MW bipolar link that became a key element of Nordic cross‑border power exchange. This installation work laid the foundation for later expansions of the Skagerrak transmission system with additional links.
