Norges vassdrags- og energidirektorat (NVE) granted Statnett SF an anleggskonsesjon (construction and operation licence) and expropriation permit to build and operate two new 300 (420) kV submarine cables over Fensfjorden, including works at the cable jointing facilities (muffeanlegg) at Mongstad and Iledalsvågen in Alver, Gulen and Masfjorden municipalities. The permits, which also cover expansion of the existing facilities and are intended to double transmission capacity across Fensfjorden to accommodate expected demand growth in the Bergen region, authorise Statnett to lay the two additional submarine cables alongside the existing ones and to expropriate necessary land rights for construction and operation.
