On 19 May 2023, the BlueFloat Energy and Renantis partnership announced that it had signed exclusivity agreements with Crown Estate Scotland to develop its Sinclair and Scaraben innovation projects under the INTOG (Innovation and Targeted Oil & Gas) leasing round. This step follows the partnership’s successful bids in the INTOG process, which is designed to attract investment in innovative offshore wind projects in Scottish waters and contribute to decarbonising North Sea operations. For Sinclair INTOG, the signing of these exclusivity agreements effectively secures seabed development rights and marks the formal transition from a successful lease bid to the early development phase of the project. Under these agreements, Sinclair, a 99.5 MW floating offshore wind farm, will be developed alongside the similarly sized Scaraben project as part of a phased delivery of the broader 900 MW Broadshore project, located 47 km north of Fraserburgh. The partnership plans to use Sinclair and Scaraben to explore innovative floating foundation technologies, associated fabrication approaches, and advanced mooring systems, with the goal of maximising opportunities for the Scottish supply chain and stimulating local investment and job creation. A central feature of the development concept is the testing and adaptation of a community ownership model governed independently by local communities, building on Renantis’ previous experience with similar schemes at its Scottish onshore wind farms. For Sinclair INTOG, these agreements therefore provide a contractual platform to advance technical design, supply-chain engagement, and community benefit structures in the next stages of development.
