Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Plc awarded Hitachi Energy UK Limited a long‑term service agreement for the Caithness, Moray & Shetland multi‑terminal HVDC link, which includes the Shetland HVDC connection integrated with the existing Caithness–Moray scheme. The contract covers mobilisation, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, emergency call‑out response and cyber‑security related services for the HVDC Light voltage‑sourced converter technology supplied by Hitachi Energy. Owing to the proprietary nature of the HVDC Light systems and associated intellectual property, the agreement was directly awarded, with Hitachi Energy identified as the only vendor capable of maintaining, fault‑finding and repairing the core converter station components and systems throughout the operational life of the link.
