Marine installation scope for the Shetland 2 525 kV bipole HVDC subsea cable link between Shetland and mainland Scotland, approx. 330 km subsea route.
Van Oord Offshore Wind UK is SSEN Transmission’s subsea cable installation partner in the Sumitomo Electric–Van Oord consortium for the Shetland 2 HVDC Link. As preferred contractor under a Capacity Reservation Agreement, Van Oord will provide offshore installation services for the 525 kV HVDC subsea cable system between Shetland and the Scottish mainland, including laying and burial of the route of around 330 km. Working alongside Sumitomo Electric, which will manufacture the cable at its new Port of Nigg facility, Van Oord will execute the marine construction phase needed to complete the second Shetland HVDC interconnector that will export up to about 2 GW of renewable power from the islands into the GB transmission system.
