Scira Offshore Energy Limited (a joint venture of Statoil/StatkraftUK, originally formed from Econventures and SLP Energy) submitted the Section 36 application under the Electricity Act 1989, together with the associated Food and Environment Protection Act 1985 (FEPA) and Coast Protection Act 1949 consent applications, to the Department of Trade and Industry in 2006 for a 108-turbine, c. 315 MW offshore wind farm located on the Sheringham Shoal sandbank approximately 17-23 km off the north Norfolk coast. The supporting Environmental Statement was prepared by Scira Offshore Energy Ltd in 2006 and described the proposed offshore structures, export cables, landfall and onshore works. Supporting technical work included Scira's Navigation Risk Assessment dated March-May 2006. Sheringham Shoal was a UK Round 2 project following The Crown Estate's December 2003 lease awards. Section 36 consent was granted by the Department for Business and Regulatory Reform (BERR) on 8 August 2008. Construction commenced in 2009 and commercial operation began in September 2012, delivering 317 MW from 88 Siemens 3.6-107 turbines. Statoil and Statkraft each held 40%, with the Crown Estate later acquiring the remaining 20%.
