Two 132kV submarine export cables from the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm offshore substations to landfall near Weybourne, forming the OFTO export system; manufactured and supplied by Nexans, including integrated fibre optic elements.
Scira Offshore Energy Limited awarded Nexans an EPC contract, valued at an estimated €24 million, for the Sheringham Shoal export cable system that now forms the Sheringham Shoal OFTO transmission assets. The scope covered engineering and design of the HVAC export cable system and manufacture and supply of two high‑voltage XLPE‑insulated submarine export cables and associated optical fibre, delivering power from the two offshore substations to landfall near Weybourne. The cables, produced at Nexans’ Halden factory and including fibre manufactured in Rognan, total around 44 km in length (one approximately 23 km and one approximately 21 km). Ofgem later identified this Nexans package as one of the highest‑value CAPEX elements within the Sheringham Shoal transmission assets for transfer to the OFTO.
