On 7 February 2025, a consent variation was formally granted for the Sheringham Shoal Extension (as part of the combined Sheringham and Dudgeon Extension Projects), when the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero issued a Decision Letter and an Amendment Order. According to the UK Planning Inspectorate’s project page, these documents implement a change that is explicitly described as “not material” to The Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon Extensions Offshore Wind Farm Order 2024, which is the Made Development Consent Order governing the projects. The update is recorded as the latest project update on the Planning Inspectorate’s application service, signalling that the non-material change process has reached a definitive regulatory outcome. This variation sits on top of the original development consent, which was granted on 17 April 2024, and applies to the already-consented Sheringham and Dudgeon extension schemes promoted by Equinor, including the joint export cable system connecting to the national grid at Norwich Main substation. Because the change is classified as non-material, it does not reopen the full examination or decision process but instead adjusts specific elements of the 2024 Order through an Amendment Order. The project therefore remains in the post-decision phase, with the updated consent framework now in place to guide subsequent implementation of the Sheringham Shoal Extension alongside the Dudgeon Extension Project.
