In January 2022, Seagreen Wind Energy submitted a Screening Report to Marine Scotland seeking approval to increase the size of the 36 consented but not yet constructed turbines associated with the Seagreen 1A phase. These 36 turbines form the remainder of the 150 offshore wind turbines originally consented for Seagreen, of which 114 have already been constructed and are operational. The Screening Report specifically addresses the proposal to enlarge these remaining turbines relative to the original consented parameters. By lodging this Screening Report with Marine Scotland, the project company formally initiated the regulatory process required to consider changes to the already consented turbine design for the Seagreen 1A phase. The submission sets out Seagreen’s intentions around turbine size and provides the necessary information for the authority to review the potential implications of this change. This step is separate from the original consent that enabled up to 150 turbines and focuses only on modifying the characteristics of the 36 turbines still to be built. This regulatory milestone marks a key stage in progressing Seagreen 1A, as it addresses how the project intends to utilise the remaining consented turbine slots. The outcome of Marine Scotland’s consideration of the Screening Report will inform how, and on what terms, the proposed increase in turbine size can advance within the existing consented framework for Seagreen.
