On 26 June 2025, Seagreen Wind Energy Limited, on behalf of section 36 consent holder Seagreen Alpha Wind Energy Limited, submitted a Section 36C variation application to Scottish Ministers (Marine Directorate – Licensing Operations Team) seeking to vary the existing section 36 consents for the Seagreen Alpha and Seagreen Bravo offshore wind farms (granted 10 October 2014 and subsequently varied in 2018, October 2022 and December 2022) to extend the deadline for Commencement of Phase 1A of the Development. The variation specifically sought to amend Annex 2 of the existing consents so that Phase 1A — which covers the remaining unconstructed turbines at the Seagreen project marketed as Seagreen 1A — must be commenced no later than 9 years 8 months from the Commissioning of the First WTG (originally August 2022 per Phase 1 consents), replacing the existing 3-year deadline that was due to expire in August 2025. The application explicitly proposed no variation to the physical parameters of WTGs or any other component of the existing consents. The applicant's case rested on the existing Habitats Regulations Appropriate Assessment validation completed in 2022, supported by a 2024 EIA screening report and an updated Appropriate Assessment validation. As part of the application, the developer also committed to remove all piling from the Phase 1A project envelope, switching exclusively to non-piled foundation methods (suction caisson). The application was published in line with Regulation 4 of the Variation Regulations through public notices in the Edinburgh Gazette, East Lothian Courier, the Scotsman, Fishing News and Lloyds List.
