National Grid Electricity Transmission PLC awarded Siemens Energy the contract to deliver the two onshore HVDC converter stations for the 2 GW Sea Link project between Kent and Suffolk. Following a competitive tender in which Siemens Energy was first named preferred bidder in April 2025, contracts were signed in December 2025 as part of National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade. Siemens Energy will design and engineer the converter stations, manufacture and supply the main HVDC equipment, and construct and commission the facilities at the Kent and Suffolk ends of the link. These converter stations will convert AC to DC for transmission via the subsea cable and back to AC for integration into the onshore transmission network, supporting the construction phase of Sea Link from around 2027.
