On 29 August 2024, the Scaraben Offshore Wind Farm project awarded a specialised engineering and design contract to First Marine Solutions, as listed on the UK North Sea Transition Authority’s Energy Pathfinder platform. The contract is categorised under engineering and design and covers “mooring design screening and preliminary optimisation of concepts” for the Scaraben floating offshore wind development. This indicates the developer has moved to engage a dedicated contractor to progress the technical definition of the floating mooring system, a critical component for a floating offshore wind project. Scaraben Offshore Wind Farm is being developed by the BlueFloat Energy | Nadara Partnership as a floating offshore wind project located approximately 47 km north-east of Fraserburgh, Scotland. With a proposed installed capacity of 99.45 GW and an Option to Lease secured through Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) innovation arm, the project aims to contribute to a world‑leading floating wind industry in the UK. The award to First Marine Solutions suggests that detailed mooring concepts are now being refined to align with the project’s environmental, technical, and site‑specific conditions. This contract award forms part of the wider early development activity for Scaraben, which includes collaborative work with other regional developers to collect and share environmental data to optimise the project design. Progress on mooring design will be a key input into future engineering decisions, supporting subsequent design stages, permitting, and eventual procurement and construction strategies for the floating foundations and related infrastructure.
