Part of the 500 kV mass‑impregnated HVDC submarine cable system for the SA.PE.I. bipole link (total approx. 840 km of subsea HVDC cable for a 420 km route with two parallel poles).
Nexans Norway, through its Halden submarine cable factory, collaborated with Prysmian on the SA.PE.I. HVDC interconnector by manufacturing around 325 km of the 840 km of mass‑impregnated paper‑insulated 500 kV submarine cable required for the link between Sardinia and the Italian mainland. This subsea HVDC cable manufacturing formed part of the two‑pole, 1,000 MW SA.PE.I. system, complementing Prysmian’s own production and installation scope.
