In June 2006, Terna contracted ABB (now Hitachi Energy) to supply and build the two ±500 kV HVDC converter stations for the SAPEI interconnector, located at Fiume Santo in Sardinia and Latina on the Italian mainland, under an order valued at about $180 million.
