In June 2006, Terna awarded Prysmian a turnkey contract worth about €400 million to engineer, manufacture, and install the 420 km submarine cable system for the SAPEI HVDC interconnector between Sardinia and mainland Italy; the project cables were later reported as having been built by Prysmian and partly by Nexans and laid on the seabed by the cable‑laying vessel Giulio Verne.
