Vattenfall signed a turbine supply and installation contract with Siemens for the Sandbank offshore wind farm on 18 October 2012. The agreement covers 80 offshore wind turbines, each with a nominal capacity of 3.6 MW, for the project located around 90 kilometres west of the island of Sylt in the German North Sea. The contract is a key step towards project realisation and was also needed to meet the regulatory requirement for obtaining an unconditional grid connection commitment from offshore grid operator TenneT. The contract becomes effective once TenneT grants unconditional approval for Sandbank’s grid connection and Vattenfall takes its funding decision, but the signing itself confirms Siemens as the chosen turbine supplier for the project.
