Offshore construction of the Sandbank offshore wind farm in the German North Sea began in June 2015. The 288 MW project, located about 90 km west of the island of Sylt and covering roughly 60 km², is being developed by a joint venture of Vattenfall (51%) and Stadtwerke München (49%). The wind farm comprises 72 Siemens SWT‑4.0‑130 turbines on monopile foundations in water depths of 24–33 m, with power exported via the SylWin1 submarine cable system to Büsum in Schleswig‑Holstein. Vattenfall’s project factsheet records June 2015 as the formal start of construction, marking the transition from manufacturing of foundations, cables and substation components into offshore installation activities at the Sandbank site.
