By 18 December 2014, EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH (EEW SPC) had been selected and had commenced fabrication of 72 steel monopile foundations for the Sandbank offshore wind farm at its Rostock facility. The monopiles, up to 6.8 metres in diameter, around 70 metres long and weighing about 886 tonnes each, require roughly 52,000 tonnes of steel in total. EEW SPC acts as the primary foundation supplier and also subcontracts Bladt Industries for production of the associated transition pieces. This selection and start of fabrication secured the large steel monopiles needed for turbine support structures at Sandbank.
