Inter-array cable installation at the Sandbank offshore wind farm commenced by 14 September 2015. Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München reported that, by laying the first power cable between monopiles “SB 28C” and “SB 29C”, they had started the inner-park cabling at the site 90 km west of the German island of Sylt. Approximately 96 km of 33 kV inter-array cables, manufactured by JDR Cables in Hartlepool, are to be installed. Dutch contractor VBMS is the main contractor for the inner-park cabling, using the cable-laying vessel Stemat Spirit to transport and install the cables. The cables are laid on the seabed and subsequently buried to depths of at least 0.6 m, and incorporate an optical fibre for turbine-to-substation data exchange and remote control from Vattenfall’s control centre in Esbjerg, Denmark.
