On 22 August 2025, Crown Estate Scotland entered into a formal Option Agreement with Salamander Wind Project Company Ltd for the 100 MW Salamander Innovation project, located approximately 35 km off Peterhead in northeast Scotland. The Option Agreement is the binding contractual instrument that follows the earlier INTOG Innovation exclusivity offer (March 2023) and gives Salamander the contracted right to develop the seabed area, subject to satisfying agreed milestones (including securing consents and demonstrating supply chain commitments) before the Option converts into a full lease. The signing followed Scottish Ministers' grant of Section 36 consent and associated marine licences to Salamander on 24 July 2025, which removed the principal regulatory barrier to seabed contracting. Salamander is the first INTOG Innovation project to reach Option Agreement, ahead of larger ScotWind projects, and was identified by Crown Estate Scotland as a "stepping-stone" demonstrator intended to scale up Scottish floating-wind supply chain capability ahead of full commercial-scale deployments. In conjunction with executing the Option Agreement, the developer published its Supply Chain Development Statement (SCDS) Outlook to Crown Estate Scotland (August 2025), setting out planned spend across UK, EU and rest-of-world tiers (Development £139m + Rest-of-UK £79m + EU £319m + Rest-of-world £162m, totalling £699m). Salamander's Community Newsletter Edition 3 (December 2025) confirms the Option Agreement signing as one of four pivotal 2025 milestones alongside onshore PPiP (March), Section 36 (July), and the BESS Section 36 (October).
