"...the current 300 MW at 200 kV DC connection between Sardinia, Corsica and Italy (SA.CO.I), constructed also by the former Pirelli Cavi in 1965."
Pirelli Cavi constructed the original SA.CO.I high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link between Sardinia, Corsica and mainland Italy in the mid-1960s. Acting as the turnkey cable contractor during the construction phase, the company designed, manufactured and installed the subsea HVDC cable system for the first Sardinia–Corsica–Italy interconnector, which was commissioned in 1967. The link operated as a 200 kV monopole HVDC interconnection with sea return, forming the SACOI 1 scheme that transferred power between Codrongianos in Sardinia, an intermediate point in Corsica and the San Dalmazio/Suvereto area in Tuscany. Pirelli Cavi’s work provided roughly 120 km of submarine cable infrastructure that underpinned the original 200 MW-class SA.CO.I link later referenced as the predecessor to the SAPEI project.
