In 2001, cable installation works for the Rio - Antirio (Greece) crossing were completed, with Assodivers Koinopraxia Gefyra providing laying, landing, and offshore protection services for a 20 kV power cable over approximately 2,000 m, including sections with specified burial depths. The activity is recorded in Asso.subsea’s project participation reference list under project K117.
In 1999, landing and offshore protection works were carried out for a 150 kV power cable between Rio and Antirio in Greece, with NKT Cables as contractor and PPC as the owner, marking the installation phase of this interconnector link.
In 2018, IPTO (ADMIE) commenced works for the 400 kV Rio–Antirrio interconnection, marked by the selection of Hellenic Cables SA–Fulgor SA and Hellenic Cables SA as contractors for the submarine and underground cable interconnections in the Rio–Antirrio area. This €47 million project, forming part of Corridor A to extend the 400 kV transmission network from the Megalopolis EHV Center via Patras to the Acheloos–Distomo line, included design, supply and installation of an 18 km 400 kV cable system and associated connections to the National Energy System, with completion targeted by end-2019.
Asso.subsea’s reference list records that for the "Rio - Antirio (Greece)" project, a 150 kV power cable was provided under contract by NKT Cables for owner PPC, with Asso performing landing and offshore protection works, indicating that NKT Cables had been selected as the cable supplier by 1999.
Financial close for the Rio–Antirio bridge concession was achieved in 1997, enabling the 42-year concession to come into effect shortly thereafter and allowing the Greek state and concessionaire Gefyra SA to proceed with project implementation.
