On 13 September 2013, after an 18‑month operation that recovered and disposed of almost 30 tonnes of old munitions from the seabed along the Riffgat export cable route, the munitions clearing company and the Lower Saxony munitions disposal service released the last section of the route, enabling TenneT to proceed with laying the remaining submarine cable sections for the grid connection to Emden/Borssum.
