On 6 October 2017, Rentel BV announced that the export cable for the 309 MW Rentel offshore wind farm had made landfall at Zeebrugge. The approximately 40 km cable had been laid in a dredged trench on the seabed by a cable-laying vessel, brought through shallow waters to shore, and was being buried by dredgers and a mechanical trenching machine, with the final 450 m on land installed using mobile cranes, making Rentel the first wind farm to be connected to the new Stevin high-voltage substation in Zeebrugge.
