In February 2019, Spain and Morocco signed a memorandum of understanding agreeing to build a third 400 kV HVAC interconnector between the Tarifa substation in Spain and the Beni Harchan substation in Morocco, with a technical capacity of 700 MW. The MoU envisages an investment of about €150 million for this link, to be shared equally between the two countries, and targeted commissioning by 2026.
