Installation and burial of two ~70 km 220 kV offshore export cables from the Race Bank offshore substations to shore, plus a ~6 km 220 kV interlink cable between the two offshore substations.
Jan De Nul Group was contracted by DONG Energy to install the subsea HVAC transmission cables for Race Bank, which now constitute the Race Bank OFTO export and interlink assets. Under an agreement signed in March 2015, Jan De Nul installed and buried two export cables of approximately 70 km each between the offshore substations and landfall, and installed a roughly 6 km 220 kV interconnector cable linking the project’s two offshore substations. The work used the cable-laying vessel Isaac Newton, supported by bespoke low-ground-pressure nearshore burial tools (Sunfish and Moonfish) and onboard trenching equipment for the challenging seabed conditions along the export route.
