Skyborn Renewables plans to start subsea acoustic surveys at the Pooki offshore wind farm site in summer 2024, complementing ongoing bird studies. On 10 July 2024, Skyborn Renewables kicked off seabed geophysical surveys at the Pooki offshore wind farm site in the Finnish sector of the Bothnian Bay with the arrival of Polish contractor MEWO SA’s survey vessel Amber Cecilia. The seabed survey campaign, running throughout 2024, will collect data on seabed conditions to support technical planning and the upcoming Environmental Impact Assessment for the 2 GW‑plus project.
In spring 2024, Skyborn Renewables began environmental baseline work at the Pooki offshore wind project area in the Bothnian Bay, launching ornithological and wider nature surveys from the mainland, islands and at sea. Bird migration and breeding studies started during the spring migration period and will continue through the breeding season into the autumn as part of a broader 2024–2025 environmental campaign to support the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and zoning.
Following signature of the five‑year reservation agreement with Metsähallitus, Skyborn Renewables scheduled development works for the Pooki offshore wind farm to commence as early as August 2023, marking the planned start of active project development activities on the site.
On 6 July 2023, Skyborn Renewables and Finnish state-owned enterprise Metsähallitus signed a five‑year reservation agreement for the Pooki offshore wind farm in the Bothnian Bay, 25 kilometres from shore in around 20 metres water depth. The agreement grants Skyborn exclusive rights to develop the project, an extension of the former Suurhiekka area, with a current plan for around 100 turbines and more than 2 GW of capacity.
