Hrvatska elektroprivreda (HEP) planned that by the end of 2020 the newly laid 35 kV, approximately 12 km long Podgora–Pogorila submarine cable would be interpolated into the existing 10 kV distribution network and begin supplying the future Bogomolje substation, improving voltage and reliability of power in eastern Hvar. At the time of reporting, the cable had already been laid, and land purchase and project documentation for the Bogomolje substation were underway, with around HRK 17 million invested in the cable and a further HRK 15 million planned for the substation.
On 3 November 2020, HEP ODS’s Elektrodalmacija Split unit, together with subcontractor KRKA SUB MARIS, completed laying a new 35 kV three-core wet-design submarine power cable with EPR insulation and integrated optical fibres between Bogomolje on the island of Hvar and Čaklje in the municipality of Podgora on the Croatian mainland. The continuous 12.26 km cable, weighing about 180 tonnes and manufactured by German company NSW, replaces an older 35 kV cable removed in 2014 and is intended to significantly increase the reliability of electricity supply and support the electrification and development of eastern Hvar.
Hrvatska elektroprivreda’s distribution operator (HEP ODS) invested around HRK 17 million in the 12 km, 35 kV Podgora–Pogorila submarine cable linking the Croatian mainland (Podgora/Čaklje) with the eastern part of Hvar island, as part of a broader 2020 programme to improve power supply on Hvar. The same article notes a further planned investment of about HRK 15 million for the future Bogomolje substation that this cable will supply.

HEP planned to bring the new 35 kV, 12 km submarine cable line Podgora–Pogorila into full operation by integrating it into the existing 10 kV network by the end of 2020, so that it could supply the future Bogomolje transformer station and improve voltage quality and supply reliability in the eastern part of Hvar island.
The existing 35 kV three-core submarine cable from Čaklje (supplied from substation TS 35/10 kV Podgora) to the cove Mala Pogorila on Hvar (junction KK 35 kV Mala Pogorila), installed in 1992 with a length of 12,054 m, was abandoned due to frequent faults and costly repairs and was removed from the sea in 2014, completing its decommissioning on the Podgora–Hvar route that is now served by the new Podgora–Hvar (Pogorila) cable.
In 1992, HEP ODS installed the original 35 kV three‑core submarine cable between Čaklje near Podgora on the mainland (fed from substation TS 35/10 kV Podgora) and the bay Mala Pogorila on the island of Hvar (KK 35 kV Mala Pogorila). The ageing XHE 48/35 3X1X50/16 mm² cable was about 12,054 m long and provided the first medium‑voltage submarine link on this route.
HEP ODS engaged German manufacturer NSW to supply a new 35 kV three-core wet-type submarine power cable with EPR insulation and integrated optical fibres for the Podgora–Hvar connection between Bogomolje on Hvar island and Čaklje in the municipality of Podgora, replacing the older 1992 cable and improving electricity supply reliability to eastern Hvar.
For the Podgora–Hvar 35 kV submarine cable project, HEP ODS’s regional unit Elektrodalmacija Split procured KRKA SUB MARIS d.o.o. of Split as a subcontractor to work alongside its own staff in executing the technically demanding subsea cable laying operations between Čaklje and Bogomolje.
