The second Peninsula–Balearic Islands HVDC interconnection (Peninsula-Baleares 2 / COMETA 2), connecting the Fadrell converter station in Castellón with the new Sant Martí converter station in Mallorca via a 2×200 MW, ~400 km submarine-underground link (around 390 km subsea), was designated as part of Spain’s 2021–2026 Electricity Transmission Grid Plan approved by the Council of Ministers, recognising it as a strategic transmission project for the Balearic system and framing its development within the national grid expansion programme.
