The second Peninsula–Balearic Islands HVDC link (Peninsula‑Baleares 2 / COMETA 2), connecting the Fadrell converter station in Castellón with the new Sant Martí converter station in Mallorca, was included in Spain’s 2021–2026 Electricity Transmission Grid Plan approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers, designating it as a strategic transmission project expected to more than double the benefits of the first interconnection, cover around 65% of Balearic electricity demand and reduce CO₂ emissions by about 905 kt per year.
