On 19 September 2024, Red Eléctrica announced that the project for the second electrical interconnection between mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands (Peninsula‑Baleares 2 / COMETA 2) had entered its public consultation and administrative and environmental evaluation phase. The consultation, overseen by the Directorate General of Energy Policy and Mining of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, invites comments from administrations, institutions, organisations and individuals on Red Eléctrica’s preliminary proposal, including the Sa Ferradura landfall area and the new Sant Martí converter station near the existing 220/66 kV substation.
