On 29 July 2024, a working group comprising Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the Government of the Balearic Islands, Alcudia City Council, the Mallorca Council, the local residents’ platform, and Red Eléctrica was established to develop an optimal onshore cable route for the second Peninsula–Balearic Islands HVDC link (Peninsula-Baleares 2 / COMETA 2), aiming to agree a technically, socially, and environmentally viable land corridor to be reflected in the project and its environmental documentation.
