On 31 July 2024, Prysmian announced it had received a Letter of Award from Red Eléctrica for the Peninsula–Baleares 2 interconnection, designating Prysmian as the preferred supplier to design, install, test and commission two 250 kV mass‑impregnated HVDC single‑core cables plus fibre optic cables for the new Mallorca–Spanish mainland link. The Letter of Award grants Prysmian and Red Eléctrica an exclusive negotiation period for the full contract, with signing anticipated by the end of 2024, for a project valued at more than €0.5 billion that will reinforce the Balearic Islands’ electricity supply and demand coverage.
