Aibel awarded ABB a contract to supply the complete power-from-shore electrical system for Equinor’s Oseberg partial electrification project. ABB is responsible for system design, equipment manufacture and delivery, and support to installation for both onshore and offshore scopes. Onshore, this includes the 420 kV grid connection, main power transformer, 132 kV gas-insulated switchgear, shunt reactor and associated control systems forming the new substation at Kollsnes. Offshore, ABB provides transformers, switchgear, variable speed drives, static frequency converters and low- and medium-voltage distribution integrated into the Oseberg platforms. The HVAC connection is designed for up to 180 MW at 132 kV, enabling the replacement of gas turbines with grid power and helping to cut Oseberg’s CO2 emissions by an estimated 320,000 tonnes per year.
