Ormonde Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vattenfall UK plc, received an Electricity Act 1989 Section 36 consent, including deemed planning permission under Section 90 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, from the Secretary of State on 4 September 2008, authorising development of the 150 MW Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm of up to 30 × 5 MW turbines in the Irish Sea west of Walney Island.
