Export cable installation for the Ormonde offshore wind farm commenced in approximately January 2011, when Visser Smit began a three-month campaign to lay and bury the 42 km, 132 kV export cable in a single uninterrupted operation from the shore to the offshore substation. The cable, manufactured by Prysmian, weighs 3,500 tonnes and contains copper conductors armoured with steel wires and polyethylene, plus 48 optical fibres for wind farm control signals.
