Offshore removal of legacy oil‑filled cables and installation of four new 400 kV HVAC interconnector cables across the Øresund strait between Denmark and Sweden.
Boskalis worked in consortium with NKT on the replacement of the 400 kV AC Öresund interconnector owned by Svenska kraftnät. Under this turnkey contract, Boskalis was responsible for the offshore scope, retrieving and recycling the original oil‑filled subsea cables installed in 1973 and installing the four new 400 kV XLPE HVAC power cables between Denmark and Sweden. The company provided marine spreads and subsea installation services, including laying and burial of the new interconnector cables along the Øresund seabed and connecting them at the shoreline transition points. Offshore works supported the overall system renewal completed in 2020, enhancing cross‑border transmission security.
