Owners
bp and JERA Co., Inc. agreed on 9 December 2024 to combine their offshore wind businesses into a new 50:50 joint venture, JERA Nex bp, which will own and progress a portfolio including the Oceanbeat East German North Sea development project (listed at 2,102 MW net capacity).
By June 2024, bp (for Oceanbeat East and Oceanbeat West) had commenced geophysical site investigation campaigns at the German North Sea project areas, with ongoing geophysical surveys forming part of the work programme supporting an anticipated FID around 2027.
By June 2024, bp had also started geotechnical investigation campaigns for Oceanbeat East and its sister project, carrying out soil and ground investigations as part of wider site investigation work to progress the German North Sea developments towards FID.

By June 2024, bp had begun broader environmental and metocean surveys for Oceanbeat East and West, including aerial and vessel-based surveys for ground, wind and water observations, and monitoring of resting birds and marine mammals in the project areas, with further campaigns planned for marine mammal acoustics, migratory birds and benthic organisms.
In the 2023 German offshore wind auction, bp was awarded the contract to develop two offshore wind farms in the German North Sea, Oceanbeat East and Oceanbeat West, together expected to deliver approximately 4 GW of capacity, with Oceanbeat East listed as a 2,102 MW development project within bp’s portfolio.
