Prysmian supplied and installed approximately 950 km of ±525 kV HVDC subsea cables for Lots 2 and 3 of the 1.4 GW North Sea Link interconnector between the UK (Blyth) and Norway (Kvilldal), over an overall subsea route of about 720 km.
Prysmian Group was awarded a major contract by Statnett and National Grid in 2015 to deliver Lots 2 and 3 of the North Sea Link (NSL) interconnector between the UK and Norway. The scope covered manufacture, supply and installation of approximately 950 km of mass‑impregnated HVDC subsea and land cables for about 470 km of the interconnector route on the UK side, as part of the 1.4 GW, ±525 kV link. Cables were produced at Prysmian’s Arco Felice factory in Naples and installed in the North Sea over the 720 km interconnector route using the cable‑lay vessel Giulio Verne. Prysmian also executed the offshore installation from the English landfall and collaborated with Nexans on transition joints between the UK and Norwegian cable sections. The works ran from detailed engineering and manufacturing through offshore installation and commissioning, concluding ahead of schedule by early 2022.
