ABB was awarded a £290 million contract for the North Sea Link interconnector to provide the two onshore HVDC converter stations, located at Cambois in Northumberland, UK, and at Kvilldal in Rogaland, Norway. The scope covered the design and engineering of the ±525 kV, 1,400 MW voltage source converter (HVDC Light) stations, as well as the supply, installation and commissioning of all major HVDC equipment. This role spanned both the development phase, through system and station design, and the construction phase, through equipment delivery and commissioning, enabling bidirectional power exchange between the Norwegian and British grids.
