Marine Scotland awarded North Sea Link a marine licence on 10 August 2018 permitting the use of rock protection in Scottish waters (outside the 12 nm limit) to provide secondary protection for subsea cables where post‑lay burial was not feasible. The licence included indicative rock placement locations and noted that changes to those locations could require a further application.
