In February 2002, National Wind Power submitted a formal Section 36 application under the Electricity Act 1989 to the UK Department of Trade and Industry to construct the North Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm of 30 turbines about 7.5 km off the North Wales coast, accompanied by an Environmental Statement. At the same time, separate related applications were lodged under the Food and Environmental Protection Act, the Coast Protection Act and Section 57 of the Town and Country Planning Act for associated marine works and onshore facilities.
