NorNed is a 580 km-long subsea HVDC interconnector between Feda (Norway) and Eemshaven (Netherlands), configured as a symmetrical monopole with two ±450 kV DC cables.
Nexans Norway was contracted by TenneT and Statnett to manufacture the deep‑water section of the NorNed HVDC cable system. Its scope comprised the deep part of the subsea link in the Norwegian Trench, where water depths reach about 400 m, and included two continuous 156 km lengths of 450 kV mass‑impregnated DC cable plus additional cable to bring the link ashore in Norway. This construction‑phase contract, worth around EUR 51 million, covered design adaptation, manufacture and supply of the deep‑water submarine cables and associated near‑shore/tunnel landfall lengths, complementing ABB’s supply on the shallower parts of the 580 km interconnector.
