In early April 2025, a planned cable replacement campaign began on the Dutch onshore section of the NorNed HVDC interconnector at Eemshaven, executed by NKT under an existing service level agreement with TenneT. The works required taking the 580 km, ±450 kV link out of service to allow safe removal and replacement of the affected onshore cable lengths plus refurbishment of the existing terminations. The total order also covered manufacture, delivery and jointing of new 450 kV on- and offshore high-voltage cable, with surplus lengths retained by TenneT as spare parts for future operations and maintenance. Statnett continued to manage the Norwegian side of the interconnector during the outage. The campaign followed long-term-solution work agreed after the 2022 cable fault in the Dutch shallow-water section and forms part of TenneT's strategy to maintain reliability of one of Europe's flagship HVDC interconnectors.
