During early development of the NorNed HVDC interconnector, a seabed route survey was carried out and soil samples were retrieved along the cable route’s shallow-water section. These samples were used to assess the thermal soil resistivity of the sea bottom, providing input data for the cable thermal design and ensuring that conductor sizing would keep temperatures within required limits over the 580 km route.
