On 15 December 2022 Aker Solutions awarded Allseas a transport and installation (T&I) sub-contract for the Norfolk Boreas offshore HVDC converter station, sitting under the main Aker Solutions + Siemens Energy HVDC EPCI contract with Vattenfall. Allseas's scope covers transport and installation of the 11,000-tonne transformer topsides and the 3,000-tonne supporting jacket, including foundation pile installation, grouting, jacket cut-off, topsides float-over installation and ROV debris survey. The contract uses the Pioneering Spirit installation vessel for the topsides lift and a complementary lift/installation spread for the jacket. The award also included Allseas T&I options on two similar HVDC platforms for the neighbouring Norfolk Vanguard wind farms, contingent on Vattenfall (and subsequently RWE) FIDs. After Vattenfall's July 2023 pause of Boreas and the March 2024 sale of the Norfolk Zone to RWE, the Allseas contract has not been publicly terminated but remains dormant alongside the parent EPCI; the Allseas Norfolk Boreas project page continues to list the project with a future installation date contingent on RWE's investment decision and a new revenue route.
