In 2010, East Anglia Offshore Wind (EAOW) secured an outline grid connection agreement with National Grid for 7.2 GW of capacity to connect the East Anglia Zone, which later included the Norfolk Vanguard and Norfolk Boreas projects, to several 400 kV substations such as Norwich, Bramford, and Lowestoft. This zone-wide agreement reserved transmission capacity on the National Electricity Transmission System that underpinned subsequent project-specific grid connection offers for Norfolk Boreas.
