In 2006, Nordsee One GmbH submitted the initial application documents to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie, BSH) to obtain approval for the Nordsee One offshore wind farm. This marked the formal start of the multi‑year consent process required for the project to proceed. The application related to the entire wind farm development, including 54 turbines and associated offshore infrastructure, located approximately 40 km north of the island of Juist in the German North Sea. The documents were further completed in subsequent years as part of an extensive review, during which BSH assessed interactions with other sea uses such as fishing, military activities, environmental protection areas, shipping, mining, and existing cables and pipelines. The submission initiated a transparent consultation and hearing procedure in which affected parties were invited to comment and have their views discussed under BSH’s chairmanship, ultimately feeding into the final approval decision.
