In 2012, Norwegian transmission system operator Statnett and German partners TenneT and KfW agreed to jointly build the 1.4 GW NordLink HVDC interconnector between Germany and Norway, forming the NordLink consortium. The ownership structure established Statnett with a 50% stake and DC Nordseekabel GmbH & Co. KG holding the remaining 50%; DC Nordseekabel itself is equally owned by TenneT and German promotional bank KfW, giving each a 25% indirect share in NordLink. This joint venture framework underpins development, permitting, construction and operation of the subsea link that connects the two countries’ power markets.
